cannot edit new doc, via google doc, with Firefox 3

With Firefox 3.0.3 (Ubuntu Hardy x86_64) I cannot create or edit doc via google doc. Besides the fact that the document isn't editable, the menu bar is also disabled (it's gray).
Do you know a way to bypass this issue? Is it a firefox bug?

The problem seems to be related to the fact that to edit or create new docs you have to login to docs.google.com via https and not via http connection.
