Ubuntu 8.04 slow

hi
i have completely switched over From win XP to Ubuntu 8.04
but now i feeling performance is considerably slow while accessing files and folder

browsing with firefox was good experience initially, now it is lot slower specially Google sites

Intel T2130
1 GB RAM
ATI Redeon express grapics
Compiz and Wine installed

please help

go to system / synaptic package manager / and try seamonkey . Its the same company (mozilla) but seamonkey seams to be faster. Also try System/Preferences/Appearance / visual effects, and set it to none, or if its set to extra set it to normal. I'm still a newb to and switched from XP and found linux to be much faster on my old pentium III .
