open button in firefox doesnt work (kubuntu 8.04)

Asked by dentaquet

when i download any file with firefox, a "downloads" window pops up, as usual. now in this this window, you see the progress bar of the file download, and then its replaced by "open" and "remove" link-type buttons. when i hit "open", nothing happens (while the file is supposed to get opened by another program, for instance and archiver or image editor). remove works better, but its just removing the item from the list of downloads, not from the computer.

Open: Unfortunately, firefox is mainly packaged in Ubuntu for GNOME users, and doesn't always seem to pick up from KDE what program it should use to open files. There is a blueprint to integrate it better with KDE, but the 'deferred' status doesn't fill me with hope:

Remove: That's how it's supposed to work. I know it's not entirely clear that it's just that list, but I expect it would be called "delete" if it actually removed the file.

Can you help with this problem?
