Link won't open in Firefox 3.0.1

Asked by David Oxland

This link just won't do it for me. It opens a page with two photos and a black square saying no video.
I've installed every possible plugin that I think might be associated and tried to open in other viewers but nothing.

Link is
http://events.onlinebroadcasting.com/bmo_fastcast/091908/frameset.php

I heard that some friends were able to get it going by changing http to rtsp but still no result
Any help you could give would be appreciated
Thanks
David

It is a audio recording of stockmarket conditiions usually about 15 min long and comes from the Bank of Montreal

Hi Arky
When I got to following your instructions properly The audio streamed properly, no hangs or timeouts for loading
Then i selected another from the list with a different date as you'll see and wget appeared to act properly
When I went $ cat audio.asf the files or links showed the old ones.
and then $ mplayer -playlist audio.asf played the original rather than the newly selected as below
I'm just about there I think

Thanks David

No need to use wget , Just copy the link and play it with 'mplayer -playlist ' or use firefox/mozilla mplayer media plugin

Pasting that link into Mplayer results in a hang. Pasting into VLC will work however. I've figured out that just changing the date in the address will also give the other listings as they become available unless the address changes

What will not open is a link from the stockbroker as below

javascript:bmoPopup('action?Page=Research/ToWebcastsPage&webcasts=http://events.onlinebroadcasting.com/bmo_fastcast/092608/frameset.php&webcaststitle=Don%20Coxe%20-%20V%20+%20T%20=%20Volatility%20+%20Terror%20(September%2026)',401,340)

What happens; is that I believe mplayer opens although it shows no name and a couple of photos as well as a small black box containing the text (no video). That's the end. It just sits there

Any more thoughts or info would be appreciated
Thanks
David

Further info
as to this last javascript link; They have just started playing right from the site by Mplayer I believe, although there is nothing to indicate which player is playing the stream.
I had an update come through a few days ago and I think that since then it's playing straightaway and now the only problem is that it stops occasionally and resumes or stops altogether
Thanks
David

If the stream does work in VLC, you could try installing mozilla-plugin-vlc and use the vlc plugin instead of the mplayer plugin. I hope it helps you!

Anyway this is a Firefox issue, not having to do with Ubuntu. You should ask at the Mozilla communities for further help.
