no sound without headphones ubuntu 8.04

I have a hp hdx, I erased Vista and installed ubuntu 8.04, I only hear sound when using my headphones.
This is all the info that I have. I already installed the lastest drivers and updates.

so there is a sound..pls check that your output device other than headphone such as pc speaker is working properly,you can also try your speaker to radio headphone jack or other computer....i think there is no problem with our computer's hardware....
