Why doesn't Synaptic under Ubuntu 7.04 show the new Firefox 3?

Asked by Thomas

I suppose I should upgrade Firefox 2 to 3. I suppose I should use Synaptic under Ubuntu 7.04 because it's easier than manual downloading and individual file manipulation. HOwever Synaptic shows only Vers. 2. Why doesn't it show the new Firefox 3?

Using the http://packages.ubuntu.com/
searching for firefox-3.0
http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=firefox-3.0&searchon=names&suite=feisty&section=all
i get no result...

So try to install Firefox-3.0 by yourself:

Please open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type:

cd
wget http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.0.1/linux-i686/en-US/firefox-3.0.1.tar.bz2
tar jvvf firefox-3.0.1.tar.bz2
$HOME/firefox/firefox

then you can make a launcher (an icon) for Firefox3 ($HOME/firefox/firefox)

Hope this helps
