Firefox Address Window

Asked by SNWOLF

My problem is this: in the past when I've used Firefox through Windows, the address bar always kept a list of past sites I had visited. Now, via Ubuntu, what the address bar does is keep a list of my bookmarks when I open the address bar and scroll down.

I don't want that presentation - I can look at my bookmarks elsewhere. I have looked everywhere in an attempt to rectify the problem but I have no idea what to do - I was hoping someone on this forum would give me a few pointers.

Regards

Hi,
if there shouldn't be results in the dropdown list of the url bar type in there:
about:config
search for
browser.urlbar.maxRichResults
change the number of entries to zero = 0 ### or whatever you like

In addition other examples:

exclude bookmarks
places.frecency.bookmarkVisitBonus = 0
places.frecency.unvisitedBookmarkBonus = 0

match only typed
browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped = true

Close and restart firefox

Marcobra - Yes I've tried that. But I would prefer my browser History to be in the Address Bar also. My previous experience with Firefox is that that is the default position.

Sam - I don't understand most of what you have written as I am a Linux newbie who doesn't understand command line language and has no particular inclination in that direction - but thanks for your input. Thanks for the link to the Awesome bar it looks very interesting.

What I still don't understand is why why URL switched from browser History entries to Bookmark entries in the first place.

What I am after is a way to convert it back manually, using available material on Firefox, without resorting to command line entry: possibly I might delve into that territory at a later date but temperamentally I'm disinclined to nut&bolts tech-tinkering.

Hi again,
I'm sorry, but I've just demonstrated if something is such annoying for someone there can be found easy solutions.
If you feel that typing >about:config< in the address rsp. location bar is asked a little to much, maybe you'd like to install an addon which provides the so called "old bar".
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6227

btw. the dropdown list contains bookmarks and history links but in some peoples view not very smart sorted,

no problem either, because Mozilla is encouraging to contribute, e.g. by reaching out to developers.
