skypemate

i am looking for skypemate for my ubuntu 8.04 system please. i downloaded a fedora 3 version but it is an x-executable file and i cant seem to do anything with it. help novice this end

The issue isn't whether the USB phones work - they do, as audio devices. The issue is whether the buttons function on the phone to initiate calls and dial through Skype.

The USB phone is simply a mic and speaker - and it is detected in Ubuntu as a sound device. If you manually initiate a call, you can then hear and speak through the phone (if you select it as your device in Skype options).

Skypemate simply provides the button functionality to use it as a real phone.

So does anyone know how to make the USB VoIP phone work in Linux as a device that can function to initiate, dial, and terminate calls?

totally correct............ I have now configured skype to treat the usb phone as a sound device and can use the keyboard to initiate calls etc. It would have been nice to have been able to use the phone itself, but this will have to do for now. Thanks everyone for your help.
