no history

Asked by ronka

firefox (probably since the update to 3.0.1 but I'm n ot sure) doesn't create a history of my browsing anymore. The buttons "back", "Forward", "Reload" and "Stop" are disabled so I can't navigate. In the address-bar remains the first adress I typed even in a new tab I open with Ctrl+T. History | Show all history show an empty window.
Thanks for help

You might have to configure your preferences in "Edit" and then "Preferences".

Personally I prefer to have my history deleted on exit, hence my history window also shows an empty window.

Thank you Andre! It is not a problem of the "Preferences" they are ok. Firefox doesn't create any history not even in this very moment when I navigate. For example the scroll down button in the address bar doesn't show any result. The adress in the adress bar shows always the same adress even if I open a new (empty) tab. There is something more complicated then the preferences.
Anyway thank you again.

Could be the history file ( I assume that history works with a file) which fails but I don't know where to look for.

Hello

You can tick these options in edit -> preferences -> privacy

Remember visited pages for the past N days

(change the number of days to 10 or 15)

Remember what I have downloaded

Remember what I enter in the forms and search bar

and then Try to delete .mozilla directory -- it's hidden directory in your home folder (to see it press Ctrl+H or View→Show hidden files). This directory contains all firefox preferences etc. (warning: by deleting this folder you'll loose your bookmarks, saved passwords, history...).

and then restart firefox

Regards
