"Send Link..." from Firefox fails if Thunderbird is running.

Asked by aslam karachiwala

Ubuntu 8.04
Firefox 2 or 3
Thunderbird 2 is the default mail client.

Scenario:
- Thunderbird is running.
- In Firefox, do "Send Link..." to send a link via email.
- 'Close Thunderbird' dialog appears: "Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system." This appears to be a Thunderbird dialog.
- There is no other apparent problem with Thunderbird, when this happens

How can I fix this?

Aslam, with or without Thunderbird running, I cannot send (link or page) from Firefox 3. Let's help one another, when we find out why. Best regards, Morris Key

Aslam,

I solved my problem by going to System-Preferences-Preferred Applications and setting Web Browser to Firefox and Mail Reader to Thunderbird.

Also, you might try reloading Thunderbird. Hope this helps. mk

Hi, Morris.

I already had Firefox & Thunderbird set as Preferred Applications for Web Browser and Mail Reader, respectively. The issue occurs despite this.

Hi Aslam, sorry you're still having problems. What mystified me was that
the upgrade to 8.04 changed my preferences away from Firefox and
Thunderbird. Perhaps one of them makes sense, but not both.

Further toward your problem, have you tried re-loading the
applications...rather than uninstalling and having to re-set preferences? mk

I don't know what happened to my last reply...here it is again:

Not sure what you mean by "reloading" the apps. For obvious reasons, I'm not inclined to uninstall/reinstall FF or TB, in this case.

Restarting FF/TB does not fix the problem.
