Upgrading to Firefox 3 from Firefox 2 in Hardy Heron

Asked by Marcus

I upgraded to Hardy Heron and when I used the beta Firefox 3 I found that many of my extensions didn't work. Using excellent Internet resources I found that I could revert to Firefox 2 which I did. The plugins I use are now available so I would like to upgrade to Firefox 3. What would be the best way of doing so? Should I use the Synaptic Package Manager? And should I remove FF2 in addition to adding FF3? I have my /home/{username} on a separate partition so plugins should be OK. Will Java and other plugins found in the /etc/lib folder be moved over to the new FF3?. Question #34887 sounds like it answers my question but the user is running 7.10 rather than 8.04 so I want to be sure. My goal is to upgrade from FF2 to FF3 in Hardy Heron removing FF2 from my system. Any help on upgrading from FF2 to FF3 would be greatly appreciated!

Using FF2 save your bookmarks to a file...
Then...

Or you can remove Firefox-2 and install Firefox-3.0

Please open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type:
sudo apt-get remove firefox-2
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install firefox-3.0

Give your user password when requested. You will not see anything, but type it and press enter.

Hope this helps
