Foxmarks requires an account which necessitates authentication

Asked by sp00k

Installed Foxmarks.

Foxmarks requires an account which necessitates authentication. Now I, using the master password function of the Fox (as we all should), am prompted for the master pw.

Yes all very much as it should be but, I would like to see which app is requesting authentication. And the most logical place for it would be the MPW window.

Has there been any mention of this in the forums?

Foxmarks v2 uses cookies to store your authentication information. If cookies aren't allowed, the Foxmarks will report that it "Could not set cookie" (or "Unknown error 1007").(Not authenticated)

To accept cookies from "sync.foxmarks.com" and "login.foxmarks.com":

    * In the Firefox menu bar, go to "Tools > Options" (or, under some other operating systems, "Firefox > Preferences", or else "Edit > Preferences").
    * Click on "Privacy"
    * In the "Cookies" section, click on "Exceptions"
    * Add "sync.foxmarks.com" and "login.foxmarks.com" to the Allowed list of cookies.

Please describe your problem with greater detail

Regards

Please read the question with greater attention; "...Yes all very much as it should be but, I would like to see which app is requesting authentication. And the most logical place for it would be the MPW window."

From Firefox window, have you checked Tools/Foxmarks/Settings/Advanced/Show Log File ?

Let me restate: There is no problem with Foxmarks nor Firefox. The scenario runs thus; I launch FF, home page is set to a page that requires authentication. Because I have Master Password enabled I'm prompted for the Master Password. Now, at launch, Foxmarks tries to synch and as this requires authentication I am prompted for Master Password. I now do not know which Master Password to supply (yes, yes I try both and it works but thats not the point) hence my wanting to see on the Master Password window which application it is being requested for.

Now this seems simple enough (says the neophyte) and if I had the skill set to be able to do this I would, as I do not, I thought I'd ask.

If you are able to log in anyway, and can easily set Foxmarks to remember your password if you want, I'm sorry, but other than you wishing Firefox developers would reveal more detail in their master password applet, I still cannot see your point.

Is this recent neophyte at least correct in thinking your problem is not with the way Ubuntu handles passwords, but with the way Firefox handles passwords?

In other words, Is it possible your question is better suited to a Firefox forum?

That is the point, and has been the point from the start if anyone had cared to pay attention. And please do not be dismissive because YOU do not see the inconvenience that this can and will cause.

This question was asked in this forum because when using Firefox on Ubuntu, the option to "Get Help Online" directs you here (hmm should I wish that the Fox Dev. team change that...). Be that as it may, the question was also asked at support.mozilla.com
