Why is firefox 3 rc1 not on the repos for hardy yet!?

Asked by Peter Wang

it's been more than a week since firefox 3 rc1 came out. why isn't it on hardy's repositories yet? intrepid has it. i thought the firefox-3.0 package was canonical-supported (main) and not community-maintained (universe). why is it taking so long, then?

In case you were unaware, RC1 now appears in the repo. It can be downloaded through Update Manager.

Umm - considering that 8.04 is a long-term supported version, and some of us have bought it preinstalled... might it not make more sense for Canonical to roll the stable release of Firefox 3 (when Mozilla release it) into 8.04?

Just that some of us (like me) are relatively new to Linux, and decided to go the preinstalled route... and don't really want to risk breaking our machines...

And you might find more customers like this...

Firefox 3 RC1 is a HUGE performance hit on my machine! Any way to go back to beta 5? my 633Mhz system is no workhorse but now with Firefox 3 RC1 it feels like I'm trying to tow a semi trailer with a motorcycle! unacceptable.

<email address hidden>, go to synaptic and search firefox-3.0 then go to the "Package" drop-down menu and click "force version" and select the beta 5 version (3.0~b5+nobinonly-0ubuntu3). do this to the packages firefox, xulrunner-1.9, and firefox-gnome-support.
