firefox3 video stream

Asked by Zoltan

With firefox3 BETA 4 I can not play stream videos.

It was simply works with ubuntu 7.10, but with the Hardy beta
firefox needs plugin to play streaming video.

When I click the install plugin button, does not appears anything.

I have gstreamer as well.

The streaming video I would like to see is an on line tv.
I think streaming is based on windows media player but it works properly on 7.10 gusty,
without any problems.

Hello:

this link has a nice howto on streaming and multimedia

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=661833

Then installing flash:

Run the following commands in a terminal:

$ sudo update-flashplugin
$ sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

this package was made for pre firefox 3 releases, so you have to add it to the libraries manually..This command will “link” it from the default install location..

$ sudo ln -s /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so /usr/lib/firefox-3.0/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so

That should install flash on firefox 3

To test go to a site like

http://www.youtube.com

and check the video streaming..

Hope it helps

Regards

Bhavani Shankar.
