Lucid Xorg failure using Firefox 3 search bar.

Asked by 1PW

Extract from dmesg using Firefox 3.6.3:

[230896.956168] Xorg[939] general protection ip:80acd44 sp:bf81c640 error:0 in Xorg[8048000+19f000]

Extract from dmesg with overnight build Firefox 3.6.5 Pre-release:

[ 3226.595567] Xorg[944] general protection ip:80acd44 sp:bfe6d3e0 error:0 in Xorg[8048000+19f000]

At seemingly random times, I receive the above similar dmesg entries after having failed Xorg by entering a search argument in Firefox 3.6.3's upper right-hand corner (Google) search box. Xorg does /not/ always fail with such browser search box entries.

Of course I'm logged out by the Xorg failure and I must always log back in after these Xorg failures in order to continue.

I can *always* avoid these Xorg failures by using a bookmark to Google and entering search arguments in a "center-screen" search input box.

My Kubuntu Lucid is up-to-date using KPackageKit's Software Updates. No other failures are apparent since this upgrade from Kubuntu Karmic 9.10 to Kubuntu Lucid 10.04.

Intel mobo w/2GHz CPU & 2GB ram. uname -a:

Linux xxxx 2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 13:27:30 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

I'm theorising a possible Linux file corruption with next to nothing to support this theory.
