The ´ character is not the apostrophe.
it is the acute accent and marks the intonation of a character.
The key is a dead key, which mean it is uses before an other key to modify its behavior. e.g. making an á from an a. You can overwrite this by pressing the key twice.

The right character to use is ’ the right single quotation mark, it’s position on the keyboard differs with the keyboard layout and it is not visible on the key itself. Alternatively you can use ' the single quotation mark.
