Lost Disk Space Ubuntu 9.04...

Asked by Enrique

I am running ubuntu 9.4
I notice my disk has been running out of space fast.
I have used all clean-up tools available to my knowledge. autoclean, clean, bleachbit, computer janitor, etc.
I have forced a fsck " sudo shutdown -rF"
I have about 60G of space I cannot account for.

baobab can help you! It displays the usage of your harddrive in a nice graphical way. Launch it and use it.

I have the disk usage analyzer.
Still no clue where the missing 60GB of space is.

One of my friends actually ran into this problem a year ago or so. There was some problem in the mounting of the partitions which caused this behaviour. Sadly, I don't remember more than that.

I found this thread however:

It seems the problem was being caused by bad backups file. I use Simple Backups.
This is one huge short coming of Simple Backup, it doesn't respond with any warnings or messages, or logs regarding the backup process.
After running the program manually and creating a fresh backup on a new media disk, my lost space came back.
This is explained in No.6 of the above thread.
Thanks.

Great! That's true. Hopefully the software gets improved over time.
