installing .exe filetype

i want to install programs in a .exe format but i cant do anything with them, all i get is an error message saying it cant find filetype.exe.zip filetype being whatever the file is. please help?

This is a very common question .exe files are Microsoft files. In linux we have different ways to install things in ubuntu we use .deb files for example. You can run .exe files in linux using a program called wine. This doesn't work all the time. You should look to see if there is a linux version of the program or if there is an alternative to that program.
To install wine go to applications>add/remove..
Then search for wine
check the box and click the "Apply Changes" button

Oh and I forgot to say you said in the question that the file was zipped (.zip). To unzip the file all you have to do is right click on the file and select "extract".
