cannot install thunderbird.

Asked by Edward Brown

I saw the Thunderbird install post. Mariano Mara wrote: Go to the Applications menu -> Internet -> Thunderbird. Thunderbird is not listed under internet. The second method Mariano suggested was ./mozilla-thunderbird , I get the answer that there is no such file or directory.
So that means I really do not know what I am doing. I downloaded it and it is sitting on the desktop. When I tried to put it in archive I was told that I did not have permission to do that.

I clearly have not put it in the place it belongs. Terminal cannot find it. When I download an application how do I place it in the proper place. How do I know what the proper place is?

Did you download thunderbird from the Mozilla website? If so that's probably the issue. Ubuntu has a repository of applications you can install from very easily without having to go to random websites to install things. Synaptic package manager is your friend - you will find it under System --> Administration menu. From there you can search for thunderbird and install it. It will then appear under the menu you expected it to.

Take a look at this page for more information about repositories and software installation:-
