dpkg crashed causing inoperable synaptic

Simply enter:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
into a terminal, and that will fix everything.

YES! YES! I FIXED IT. sudo password did not show stars, its invisible, so just enter your password and off you go!!!

Did it and it brings up Java download info. HELP!!!!
