Wireless Connection

Asked by mase4me2003

I am working off of a live cd, but the problems are that my wireless connection isn't working even though it says it is connected. And another thing i'm at a campus and they have their own program that grants access to the internet here, but i download the clean access program and it won;t open even berly won't open here. How is it that i can use ethernet connection here but not the wireless. Thanks

The program they use is probably a Windows app...

If you can find out what type of authentication the wireless network uses we may be able to help you work around this issue (e.g. WEP/WPA/WPA2/PEAP/LEAP...)

As for why you can use the Ethernet connection it doesn't require the same level of security as it cannot be accessed from outside the building and is not as susceptible to people snooping your connection since your data isn't being transmitted through the open air.

BERLY:
Look i don;t want to bother people but i can;t figure something out.. I start running Ubuntu 6.6 (Dapper) off a live CD and followed http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=301364. It was for ATI drivers but i need one for a SIS M760 GX drivers so i find this website and i download the drivers. In the first step on i didn't anything talking about direct rendering but i see on the web how people with acer got their to work. I read and tried the berly installition guide but it will tell me that i don't enough space and that i was missing certain files. I think i should install it on my laptop but i need the berly thing to work.

It's unlikely you'll be able to use that windows app at all - possibly under Wine, but I wouldn't count on it.

However, the good news is that I find when talking with admins about wireless access problems, and I mention that I am a Linux user, they are usually very, very helpful. :-)
