Compress files via Nautilus hangs my Ubuntu system

Asked by qub

I have installed Ubuntu 15.10 and there is a problem with the compressed files via Nautilus conventional means, ie by compression through a choice of menu item "Compress ...". I started the compression 260,000 files totaling 20 GB, and in the process of compression units and all running programs (Firefox, Libreoffice) begin to slow down and occasionally hang and sag after a few seconds, the mouse cursor starts moving in spurts, with all this, the system monitor displays the average 2x loading of processor cores 20 - 25%, wherein Unity work becomes impossible. Compression of 260000 files on a laptop with a processor with Intel® Core ™ 2 Duo CPU T6600 @ 2.20GHz × 2 with 3 GB of memory for some reason, takes a very long time, more than 15 hours. Why so much time?. Why in the compression system freezes?
