How can i get a new authentication key I have lost mine and HPare no help

I need an authentication key to be able to install updates and change setting and [possibly remove a programme.
I was advised by vendoor to contact HP as there should have been a sticker on the laptop giving the details. It is an HP255 A week has gone by with no answer from HP

If you have an Ubuntu system and want to reset your password (which is also the password to enter as confirmation for an administrative task), you can use the instructions in http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword
