Hi,

the file you have downloaded is firefox-3.0b1.tar.bz2
This is a tar file that has been compressed.

Open the file with archive manager.
You will see the firefox directory. Right click and choose extract from the context menu to extract the directory from the archive.
A new dialog will ask you where to store the directory.

An more easier way to extract would be to use the context menu for the compressed file ("Extract here").

In that directory you will find the firefox executable.

Hope this helps.

what does an "executable" look like? what is the extension? i am familiar with windows files like "setup.exe" or "install.exe". What are linux equivalents?
thank you.
