Have you attempted to extract it? If you have attempted to do so, then can you describe exactly what you have done that hasn't worked, and what happened instead? Please include any error messages.

I double click on the eve-premium_005082_214371-mac(2).dmg file in downloads, it asks me to extract file, I click yes and it starts extracting. After several minutes it says that it was unable to extract.

If you really *want* to extract the file on your Ubuntu system, then I will continue attempting to assist you in doing so. However, are you sure this is what you want to do? You cannot actually run the program on your Ubuntu system, as it requires Mac OS X. Assuming you have a Mac OS X system that meets the requirements (listed under Description http://www.gamepron.com/file/723/EVE-Online-Client-v214371-Mac/), you could extract the file in your Mac OS X system. Or are you attempting to extract it on your Ubuntu system because you are unable to extract it on your Mac OS X system?

Even if you successfully extract the archive and copy the files to your Mac OS X system, it is possible for file ownership and/or permissions on the extracted files to be wrong. The archive is intended to be extracted inside the system on which the software will be installed.

Assuming you really do want to extract this file in your Ubuntu system:

Do you know what the name is of the program that is being used to attempt to extract the files? Does the title bar on the top of the program's window have any text in it? When you right-click on the file and click Properties, what program is selected in the drop-down menu immediately to the right of the text "Open with"? Are there other items in that drop-down menu? (Close the Properties window now.) If there were other items in that drop-down menu, then you should be able to try opening the file with them by right-clicking on the file, moving the mouse to "Open With", and selecting them. Are any of them able to successfully extract the file? If not, then (1) do any of them provide a more useful or detailed error message, and (2) please provide a complete list of their names, so that I can investigate programs that may enable you to extract the .dmg using different methods from the methods used by those programs.

I can download this file and attempt to extract it on my Ubuntu system. I also have a Mac OS X system where I can attempt to extract it--if I cannot extract it on Mac OS X, that strongly suggests that the file is corrupted. However, in order for this to be useful, I have to be sure that the file I am downloading is the same as your file, which includes taking into consideration the possibility that your copy (but not the copy on the download server) is corrupt. Therefore, unless the above information has solved your problem, please take an md5 checksum of the file. It is very unlikely that two different files would have the same checksum. The rest of this post contains instructions for taking an md5 checksum.

Open up a Terminal and type "md5sum " (make sure to include the trailing space, but not the quotation marks). Then drag the file from Nautilus (your file browser) into the terminal window, which will paste the file's name into the window. Then press enter in the Terminal window to execute the command, and paste the output of that command.

You can run Ubuntu on a Macintosh computer (though new versions Ubuntu require an Intel-based Mac). However, programs for Mac OS X will not, generally speaking, run on Ubuntu.

If you have a Macintosh computer, you can have Ubuntu installed on it as well as other operating systems (such as Mac OS X and, on an Intel Mac, Microsoft Windows).

I am guessing that you are no longer interested in attempting to extract this .dmg file in Ubuntu. However, if you are, please post again, reopening this question.

If you do not require any more information about this issue, then you can mark this question as Solved.

Can you help with this problem?
