When I dowload somethink and I press save file when I come to open it it says

and i should be able to Open it

you're trying to run a windoze program. windoze programs will not run under linux systems such as ubuntu. however, if you install wine from synaptic package manager, you might be able to run it. some programs can be run this way. you can check the wine database to see if the program you downloaded is supported by it
