i cant up date my softwere still on 7.0

i cant up date my system iv tried to down load it but when i open the file i cant understand it . it not like windows were it just does it for
you please help i like the system but dont understand it for the life of me

can you give the output of:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade

Yes Ubuntu is not like windows, but teh OS will auto update for you if you tell it. The command above will help
