How can I open or extract .rar extension file in ubuntu 9.10 ?

sudo apt-get install rar unrar p7zip-rar unrar-free

You can now use fileroller (right click in nautilus etc) or use

rar x filename.rar

It must be rar file corruption in this case I would suggest you next tool http://www.rar.fixtoolbox.com
