Issues after Activating ATI video driver - Natty

Asked by Chris McCormick

Currently running Natty 11.04

I have issues after activating my ATI video drivers. I get black rectangle splotches...can't see the dock bar. Also when I use the mouse to select an area on the desktop and drag to other corner. It makes the desktop completely black.

I am unable to use the search function to access programs and files..etc. Can't see top panel as well.

That sounds like a bug. Natty is still in beta, so you'll experience those. The best thing to do is to report it as a bug. Assuming that it's after activating the proprietary ATi drivers (through Additional Drivers), you'll want to report the bug against the package fglrx. Before you file a bug report, please make sure to read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs carefully. When you report the bug, you should use the Apport utility (ubuntu-bug) to initiate the report (rather than starting the report here at Launchpad). If anything above doesn't make sense, that's probably because you haven't read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs yet.

After you file the bug, you should link this question and the bug to each other by using the "Link existing bug" link near the top of this question. However, your bug report should be fully self-contained--it should not be necessary for the Ubuntu developers to refer to this question in order to completely understand and appreciate your bug report.
