When Will Ubuntu Update the ATI/AMD FGLRX Experimental Beta Driver?

Asked by N

Hello,

I was wondering when Ubuntu will be updating to a newer FGLRX experimental beta graphics driver. The current one shows as version 13.3, saying that it's from January 2014. The latest beta driver on AMD's website is on version 14.6 as of May. However, I prefer to stay with Ubuntu's FGLRX management, rather than messing around with installing the latest ones myself (and possibly breaking something).

How many months does it generally take Ubuntu to adopt new experimental beta drivers?

Thank you!

Note that AMD has two version schemes (one arbitrary number and the one based on the date of release).
fglrx 13.350 is actually a customized catalyst 14-3 beta.

As far as if/when a new beta will be packaged, there hasn't been a consistent pattern AFAIK. I suggest filing a bug against fglrx-installer-experimental-13 requesting an update if you really want one.

Actionparsnip, I've included the terminal output you requested below.

Daniel Letzeisen, you're saying that the experimental beta driver Ubuntu is using perhaps isn't as outdated as it seems?

Thank you both for your prompt replies.

It depends on how old you thought it was. I'm just saying it's not from March 2013. That doesn't change the previous comment/suggestion I made.

Can you help with this problem?
