libavformat-unstripped-52

Asked by YannUbuntu

Binary package hint: ffmpeg

When installing libavformat-unstripped-52 to get support for video codecs, it uninstalls many applications, for example VLC, dvd-slideshow, ekd, mandvd, mencoder, mplayer, photofilmstrip, FFmpeg, FFmpeg2theora, libsox.., gstreamer ...

Dependency problem..

Seen in Karmic, but i expect it to be also in other versions.

this is not a bug, the package has been renamed to libavcodec-extra-52. don't worry about the -unstripped- packages.

for your convinience, make sure you have the ubuntu-restricted-extras metapackage installed

Thank you very much for your answer.
Concerning libavcodec-extra-52 , I have several other questions that will help the EKD (French picture/video editor) dev team to improve their software:

1) Can libavcodec-extra-52 be installed on Debian ? (if it exists too, is it art of the repositories ... and for which version of Debian ?)

2) Does this package exist too in Mandriva repositories (and for which version of Mandriva ?) ?.

3) Does this package exist too for Fedora, OpenSuse, ... all the distributions based on rpm packages ?.

4) Is this package also available for Hardy, Intrepid, Jaunty ? (I did not see it in http://packages.ubuntu.com)

5) Does one need to uninstall the packages libavdevice-unstripped-52, libavfilter-unstripped-0 and libavformat-unstripped-52 before installing libavcodec-extra-52 ?

Thank you in advance for your help.
Best regards
