libgd2-xpm-dev should be replaced by libgd-dev

Asked by Brandon Taylor

I'm attempting to build a newer version (2.2.3) of FCEUX. So I typed into a terminal, "sudo apt build-dep fceux" but I got this error message:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
builddeps:fceux : Depends: libgd2-xpm-dev but it is not installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

One search later, I found out that libgd2-xpm-dev has been deprecated and replaced with libgd-dev.
