Any luck getting 0.11.2 backported from hirsute to focal?

Asked by Gwyneth Llewelyn

Hi there,

fail2ban 0.11.1, which comes as standard on Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS (focal), is, at the time of writing, over 14 months old. Being an essential security tool to fend off all sorts of malicious attacks — especially in this era when all sorts of agents are all over the net trying to break into every system they can find — I found it strange that the most recently released version, 0.11.2, was not already available. 0.11.2 introduces some new functionality and a not negligible amount of performance updates and bug fixes. It is only available on the (upcoming) hirsute release for now. I wonder if you aren't considering backporting it to focal as well?

Thank you in advance!

see for the process of backporting the newest version that is available in the development version of Ubuntu to an older release. First step is creating a related bug report.

A quick look at the dependencies of the package let me assume that it should be possible to install the package for hirsute also on focal, without running into dependency problems.

And as another suggestion: You can create a PPA with such package version yourself.
