Is this package based on that ooooooold version?

Guys, is this package based on the code of that old version of Ctags? I just notice universal-ctags (https://github.com/universal-ctags/ctags) which looks pretty fresh.

I suggest you report a bug. If the bug and security fixes are significant then the package will be updated sooner rather than later.

Ubuntu is not a rolling release and packages can be left if there are no significant issues with an existing package. This is especially true in the LTS releases
