Official Ubuntu support

Asked by Sergey Ponomarev

The extrepo is a useful tool and it can be also used on Ubuntu. But it's maintainer Wouter Verhelst needs for someone from Canonical to allow this:

> Ubuntu suites are not currently supported by extrepo. If I get an official request by someone speaking for canonical, we may revisit this. Otherwise this is not an option.
> The reason for this is that there are some security trade offs to extrepo, and I don't want to make that decision for Ubuntu without talking to them first.

So could you please contact him? The tools will simplify a lot of things and this will allow for users to use the latest versions from original developers

"Ubuntu suites are not currently supported by extrepo"
First of all Ubuntu copies its files from Debian to avoid duplicate packaging.
The extrepo package is in the universe repository and is current.

A new version is currently in testing at Debian.

Wouter Verhelst is currently building a new package for extrepo.

You could put in a bug report through Debian for extrepo make the title a [feature request].
and list which old tools you are referring in the report.

yes, but he doesn't accept PRs to include the Ubuntu suites because he needs a clear confirmation from Canonical that the extrepo should work on the Ubuntu.

He will have to contact Canonical directly for that conversation.
