EVOLUTION "Clear attachments from local folder"

Asked by GuzBuntu

Hi all,

I noticed that my local folder on .evolution gets unnecessary bigger in time because attachments are still on the inbox folder. I want to remove them keeping the body text of the message, and speaking about that I'm not sure if I erase the whole messages on evolution (the actual GUI not the inbox folder on .evolution) the attachments are going to disappear from my disk. There is a way to configure evolution to download just the attachments I want? or if not, there is a command to erase all attachments from inbox?

best,
chino

Thanks for your question.

Up to now, Evolution does not support deleting attachements (without deleting the whole mail). It does also not support a selective attachements download.

You might want to check if a request for that feature exists in the bug tracker. If not, you might want to file one on your own :-)

Ok,

Bad thing, BC that folder can get really big in time. Thunderbird use to have the same issue, but there is a plugin you can install to solve it. I try to delete, form the main GUI screen, all messages with attachments on them (the whole message as you suggest), but local folder is the same size as before, meaning the attachments are still there, must be a way to get rid of that, how people manage this problem?, is not a problem?

Might be a dumb question, but did you empty the trash folder? Otherwise the messages are still on your system.

I don't have any problems with that, since I don't care about a 1 or 2 GB mail folder. I still do understand that there are people who are concerned about that problem. You're not the first asking for that feature. Still, I can't find any "official" request for that feature. So if you won't file one, we'll maybe never see that feature in evolution :-)

Dude!
wasn't dum, i forgot to do that, my mistake.
Ok, any way in order to erase them I lost the body text and sometimes I'd like to have original messages on my records. Yeah, maybe 1 or 2 GB doesn't hurt but my local folder gets in average ~10GB in 6 month, BC of my work. I place the request, let's see what happens with that.
I'll mark the problem as solved, I guess this is the only solution available at this time :(.
 Thanks!
