Drafts are not saved anywhere and get lost (IMAP account)

Binary package hint: evolution

Bug found in: Evolution 2.28.1
Using: Ubuntu 9.10

I set up an IMAP account for my new university's e-mail address. Retrieving mail works fine. But all drafts I write get LOST!

When I write a new message -- no matter whether as a reply or as a new message -- I've found no way to save that message as a draft (except as a local copy via Ctrl+S), nor can I send it either: it simply gets dumped!
I had a hard time believing that I was experiencing such an awful bug. But I repeated it several times, and it always behaves the same way. Even minimizing the editing window dumps my draft. To sum it up:
 1) "Save as" (or shortcut Ctrl+S) works
 2) "Save as Draft" (or shortcut Ctrl+Shift+S) does not work!
 3) "Send" (or Ctrl+Enter) shuts the window and dumps the message. I can't find it anywhere.
 4) Closing the window (or Ctrl+W) does close the window immediately, without prompting a dialog window that asks me whether I want to save my draft -> message is lost, too!
 5) Minimizing the edit window does the same as closing it -> message is lost!

Again: my drafts are NOT in the drafts folder, where they should be, nor in any other folder visible to me. I also double checked the configuration for outgoing mail, but it seems to be correct. Thunderbird works without any problem with this IMAP account. I am also aware that the default behavior of Evolution is to minimize to a tray icon.

So, my first attempt ever to use Evolution was an extraordinary disappointment. I hope that I am overseeing something, and you may tell me that my messages were saved in some place I am just too stupid to find. But in any case, points 4) and 5) are a design problem, that's the least I can say.

Ok, sorry for posting a bug report, my suspicion that I was too dumb to find the place where drafts are stored turned out to be correct :S
Seems like they are stored by default under "Drafts" in the local account. A bit confusing though...
It should have been a question, if any. Can you remove this question/report? Thanks.

Hi :)

It will vanish quietly on its own automatically. Don't worry.

My personal feeling about stuff like this is that i am happier to see people posting stuff rather than suffering in silence. While posting as a question first is usually best it does collect extra data about your system when you post as a bug-report so that can sometimes be a good trick, just to get some extra detail into here. When i have a problem i tend to post a question in here 1st thing, then hunt out an answer for myself. We can pretty much guarantee that if you found a problem with something then other people will too so having a quick answer ready in the "Solved Answers" database helps the whole linux community. So don't worry, it's all good :)

I prefer Thunderbird anyway
Thanks and regards from
Tom :)
