Where are evolution emails stored and how can I retrieve them from a faulty (slave) harddrive?

Asked by cjm

In attempting to install Ubuntu on my harddrive, I somehow destroyed resident XP. Then I left that drive as it is and added a new drive with dual Ubuntu and XP. On the original drive are evolution emails which I now can't seem to access (or find) although I did discover some evolution files there (not the email data files - I don't know in which folders to look). I don't want to mess about too much with old drive as I am told that it is packing up. Ubuntu there does not appear bootable.

Thanks for your question.

The evolution data is stored at ~/.evolution (same as /home/<username>/.evolution).

The information is much appreciated, Markus.

Is there an easy way to point evolution to the files on the other drive? It does not appear to notice them.

Sorry if the questions are grade A stuff. I came from XP (in the hope of finding a faster system - which Linux seems to be) and all this is very new to me.

Regards,

cjm

Not sure about redirecting evolution. What are you trying to accomplish? It seems just copying the file over would be easiest.

As Jason said, just copy the content of .evolution from one drive to the other.

If this does not work, please tell us what you did *exactly* and post the output of "ls -l ~/.evolution" from your "new" linux drive.

Thanks!

It now seems so obvious!
