how to setup evolution mail client ? i can't use launchpad -- no recognition netzero.net

Asked by Captain Jack Logan

When I try to send an e-mail to <email address hidden> or <email address hidden> with return address <email address hidden>, I keep getting error messages that say "Host hookup failed; Netzero not known." I'm new to Linux and I'm using Ubuntu. There's a lot of terminology associated with e-mail that I've never been able to learn; most FAQs either assume that I know things like the difference between SMTP and POP and/or they answer questions that don't have anything to do with my problem. I think that FAQs are written for a level above mine by people with training in programming. I don't even know what SMTP or POP are. Please send -- or tell me where I can find -- precise, detailed instructions for using Launchpad to send e-mails. I have read the instructions and they somehow don't make sense. I want to be able to send OpenOffice text and general video attachments. Thank you.

Note: You absolutely don't need to send mail to Launchpad...

But for your daily mail you need to configure your mail account.

To configure your mail account you need your user account details they are provided by your mail provider not related to Ubuntu or Evolution do you have them...?

When you have your mail details you can configure evolution...

Here something might help you... http://www.simplehelp.net/2007/08/11/how-to-set-up-evolution-for-email/
here a video http://www.5min.com/Video/How-to-Set-Up-Evolution-Mail-in-Ubuntu-188461288

But i suggest you to manage your email to install and use Thunderbird is very easy and functional i use it every day.

How to install Thunderbird as mail client

Thunderbird: mail/news client with RSS and integrated spam filter support
Thunderbird is a lightweight mail/news/RSS client, based on the Mozilla suite.
It supports different mail accounts (POP, IMAP, Gmail), has an integrated learning Spam filter, and offers easy organization of mails with tagging and virtual folders. Also, more features can be added by installing extensions.

To install Thunderbird simply search select and add it to your system using the System→Add/remove menu item

To install Thunderbird using terminal

Open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:
(if the system ask you a password give your user password, you will not see nothing when you type it, then press enter)

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install thunderbird

You will find Thunderbird into Applications→Internet menu
