Setting up Evolution to work with Gmail

I set up Evolution email to work with Gmail as per the article in the Ubuntu Special Magazine for 8.10. I can send out messages from Evolution, but Gmail will not forward my incoming mail into my Evolution inbox. I've gone back thru Edit/Preferences a dozen times but can't seem to solve it. Any tips?

Starting with the article"Using Gmail with Evolution" I first changed the settings under Receiving Mail, and nothing happened. Then I changed the settings under Sending Mail (thinking, how can this work) , but lo and behold I suddenly had 16 items dumped into my Evolution inbox. Thank you very much, zvacet.
