Exchange sync copies the whole folder everytime

Asked by map

Evolution seems to copy the whole inbox folder from the Exchange server every time I restart my laptop,. it's a 11,000 messages and about 800 MB folder, so rather annoying. I want to keep a local copy of my inbox , but was expecting an update rather than a full copy every time.

Am I doing something wrong or is this a "feature"?

Thank you for any help diagnosing this. I am a beginner with Linux and Ubuntu

I have Ubuntu 7.04 but I noticed the same behavior also with previous versions 5.10 and 6.06.

While settig up your account on evolution, I seem to remember there being a checkbox that asked if you would like to use the cached exchange mode. I believe that is what you are looking for.

I remember that checkbox in Outlook but can't find it in Evolution. There is "Automatically synchronize account locally" is that what you meant?

Thanks

Yes, I started with a new account and with that option checked. I let the
System Monitor run and now it shows 1.5 GB downloaded and 760MB uploaded.

Those numbers are still increasing as I type. At least two things are odd:

1) Evolution reports 978,209.MB for the total size of all the folders in that account , so why download 1.5GB?
2) I can't explain the 760MB uploaded . I haven't used that machine for anything else but Evolution.

Sorry, that was a digression from my original question.

After restarting Evolution did not copy all the messages as it did before, so problem solved.

Thank you very much for your help
