receipient of email disappears before I can send a message

I have just started to use evolution,wanted to send a message to my son, entered his email address in the 'to' space, went down to the text box, and his email address disappeared. Tried to write the text first then go into the email address to send, address wouldn't stay in the box to send. can receive emails ok.

Hi,

Did you try with other email addresses? Does it work?

if yes, then what you can try is:
If you have your son in your contacts list, delete it (if possible) and then send him an email again.

Thanks Arnaud, I entered the email address without using the contacts list, and the email went through and received back successfully
