Evolution - I cannot send or receive emails

Asked by Brian Phillips

I am very new to Linux. I use Firefox to connect with Webmail including tpg my ISP, but I cannot use Evolution at all. I received a ' welcome' email from Evolution when I started but thereafter - nothing. I have 4 emails in my Outbox but - nothing out and nothing in.

Mu send/receive button is greyed out and I am online.

I need to change something but I don't know what or how. I use POP3 and SMTP. Perhaps I should use IMAP what ever that is ( how ? ). Can you advise please ? Thank you. Brian Phillips

Hi,

Generally, you need information about 1) the mail server (POP or IMAP) and 2) the outgoing server (SMTP). Do you have this information, including login/passwords?

You can have a look at http://www.simplehelp.net/2007/08/11/how-to-set-up-evolution-for-email/ for instance to get visual clues on what to type in the different fields. Most of the time, it is pretty simple to do.

"Mu send/receive button is greyed out and I am online"

Open the Evolution screen, click on "File" and then on "Work Online".
