Evolution does not ask for password on starting up

Asked by Chris Hirtes

I am using Ubuntu 9.04 and when I click the "Evolution" icon on the top tool-bar no password request box comes up and the application loads with the send/receive and other options greyed out. I can view old e-mails in the various folders but cannot send or receive messages. Other functions Calendar, Task... appear to work OK but I do not receive reminders.

The application worked until 28th May and since then I have been looking at FAQs without success. Today I, possibly erroneously, clicked the "forget password" preference when the password request box came up which I completed but nothing further happened. I also started the bug report process but, being very new to Ubuntu, I got lost when filling in the details and ended up on Launchpad.

I have checked my mail settings which seem OK - I normally download from www.netaddress.com and can send and receive mail OK via this site when on-line.

I am concerned I cannot use the Evolution mail function and also that anybody with access to my computer can read all my old Evolution data.

Your help would be much appreciated.

This sounds like evolution may just be in offline mode. If it is, you would see a disconnected pipe or wire icon in the bottom left-hand corner. You can put it back into online mode by clicking that icon or going to File->Work Online

If you are in Online mode, post back here and we will see what other troubleshooting is possible.

Can you help with this problem?
