can't install e-volution e-mail account

Asked by schumi_lu

hi,

i started using ubuntu and the evolution e-mail. On windows it was really easy to activate my e-mail account. But now i face problems beacause the smtp server asks for a password which doesn't work.

On windows I only had to input the pop3 and smtp server, my user name and my password and it worked.
Now i did the same on evolution but the smtp server always asks me for a password which I entered already before...
I makes me crazy. What did I do wrong? should I go back to windows because i'm to stupid for using evolution?

Do you know if your smtp server requires authentication? If it doesn't you can uncheck the "Server Requires Authentication" option in the options for the smtp server. You can get to these options by going to Edit->Preferences. Then select the account in question and press the "Edit" button and go to the sending email tab. On this tab you will see a number of options including the one mentioned above.

My problem is that my password for new account for Evolution is bad (for server pop3) but this is impossible

You do not need to download Thunderbird from a website. Open up the
Add/Remove in the Applications menu, go to Internet and Mozilla
Thunderbird Mail/News. Check the box next to it and hit Apply Changes.

Thank you very much. You gave me the good answer how to install thunderbird in an easy way. It works perfectly.

I don't understand why the evolution e-mail did not work for outgoing messages (smtp server always rejected the password).

How can I replace the evolution icon on the panel by he thunderbird ?
