Tool for automatic archiving of Evolution mails

Asked by Olivier Blanc

I am using evolution since a year now, and I have tons of email in separated directories on my local drive.
How can I archive emails older than a certain age in an identical structure ?
Is there an integrated tool to do that or should I use an external tool ?

Thanks for help

Olivier

Don't know if it helps, but Evolution uses (a kind of) mbox, so in principle it would be enough to move the directory concerned to your backup media (with Folder -> Move folder to ....).

Actually, I don't think it is enough. It's hard for someone that does not know of what "mbox" is to work on such solution. Also, when the structure contains more than 5 directories, its somewhat anoying to "Move Folder to" for each of them.
Also, after the move, the folder deseapear from your mboxes structure, so you have to recreate it.
What I was looking for is a tool that searches in each branch of the structure for messages older than a specified age and moves them to an identical structure on a backup media.

you can search for files based on certain age using the "find -mtime" command and then tar those files.

i guess that's not a in depth explanation but "find" and "tar" are where i'd start.

note: i'm assuming Maildir/ structure, dont think this would be a valid approach with mbox

Can you help with this problem?
