POP3 access fails due to UTF-8?

Asked by Thorsten

f I try to login to my pop3 mailaccount with Evolution 2.10.1 I get the error: "-ERR Username or password incorrect."
Thunderbird works fine. A telnet session to port 110 failed too (same error message) until I changed the charset of the terminal window from UTF-8 to ISO 8859-15.
After that I tried to change any character setting in the gui of Evolution I could find to "ISO 8859-15", too.
But still I receive the same error message.

Where can I change the charset of my login data?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Have you tried playing with Edit > Preferences > Mail Preferences > Character Encoding and Edit > Preferences > Composer Preferences > Character Encoding?

Yes, that were the two settings I could find. But they didn't help.
Any other ideas?

Do you have any characters in your username or password that's not in the [a-zA-Z0-9] range? If yes, those might be causing the problem, so could you try changing them?

If that doesn't work, then file a bug against evolution at : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+filebug , with a complete description of your problem and steps you did to try to solve it.

Hope this helps
