Can not see new email after downgrade from jaunty.

Asked by fernandotgo

Hi:

I upgraded to Jaunty, then downgraded to 8.10. When I open Evolution I get the message "table Inbox has 28 columns but 26 values were supplied".

What can I do? Because I can't see my new email. I checked the Inbox file and the emails are there.

Thanks.

Bye

This is due to a database / table conflict. The version difference of Evolution in Jaunty (2.26.0) is different than in Intrepid (2.24.1). One option is for you to manually upgrade to the current version of Evolution and this will be solved.

Another option is to delete your Account, from the settings menu, and re-add it. Is this feasible for you? This will re-create the mail's database structure.

If you want to manually upgrade you can do so easily by using the source file found on Evolution's site:
http://projects.gnome.org/evolution/download.shtml

------

Other users have also reported this problem without a response from Evolution. Strangely enough, after a few reboots it's gone away. However, some users are unlucky and it doesn't go away. So, I want to advise you to do the upgrade as cited above.

If you do not want to upgrade another option is to delete the .evolution folder in your home directory (note the period in front). It's a hidden folder, so you'll have to press Ctrl-h in Nautilus to see it (or select "Show hidden files" from the View menu). Please note, however, this will "reset" Evolution and you'll have to re-do all of your settings...

I'm sorry there is not a "repair" option or some sort of utility to resort the database; however, it seems that (as I said) for some users Evolution does this automatically after so many failed attempts.

Can you help with this problem?
