How to avoid the threaded view of messages?

Asked by Uqbar

I wish I had all my messages simply sorted by date, without the grouping by "thread".
I have not found any setting for this.
Any hint?

It depends on your e-mail client. Which one are you using? Evolution? Thunderbird?

Please, specify.

Ok, I see now that you specified "evolution" package. Sorry for not noticing it before.

WARNING: I'm trying to guess your options names by translating mine from Spanish into English. There could exist some variations.

If you're seeing all messages by thread, regardless on what folder they are, do the following:

1. Go to menu Edit --> Preferences
2. Open the "E-mail options" tab in the left hand side of the new window.
3. Uncheck the box that you'll see there before the title "Group messages by subject".

If you're seeing threaded messages just in one folder, do the following:

1. Go to menu View --> Group by Thread.

You may also access this option by hitting Ctrl-T.

That's all. After that you should see your messages sorted by whatever field you click on (click repeatedly to switch order ascending/descending.)

Hope this helps,

Once again, this time with KMail v1.11.2.
The preferences menu doesn't exist any more.

There's a small icon on the right whose "hint" says "select aggregation mode".
The "flat date view" does the magic.
This feature is quite ... hidden though.
