that means that your SMTP server is not configured properly to relay mail. make sure that you have your SMTP setup properly. to do that make sure that you contact your email provider and ask them about your mail settings. e.g. POP3, SMTP, IMAP

hope that helps

Open Evolution and click on Edit and then on Preferences. Click on your account and then on Edit. Open the Sending Email tab.
Server Type is SMTP (as you have indicated)
Server is smtp.hughes.net (as you have indicated)
I assume that no secure connection is required (you have to verify that with your ISP)
Authentication: you will have to click on "Check for supported types" before opening the button to the left. You will see some authentication methods crossed out and I assume that you will be left with "Plain" or "Login". That refers to the password you have arranged with your ISP.
Username should be your total email address.
Tick "remember password".

If the fields under Authentication are greyed out, click on the "Server requires authentication" box.

Thank you...it was a good thing that you said that the user name had to be my complete email address. For some reason, the user name was correct for recieving, however, the entire email address was not there for sending. Great detail instructions. Just one simple step wasn't correct and it messed up the whole process. Thanks
